Do you want to host a Block Party in Saskatoon?
We’re here to help!
Block parties are a great way to connect with neighbours.
A Block Party can be as simple or as involved as you want to make it. We’ve got supplies, games, and the tips, tricks, and tools to help you make your block party a fun, community-building event!
Our Block Party & Beyond project is here to help with:
- Ideas and tips to make the party great
- A guide to navigating city approvals
- An awesome kit of supplies (games, tents, tables, speakers, sunscreen, and more) to reduce your prep work and make sure there’s lots of fun
- Post-party connection ideas and tools
Our goal is to make it easier for you to host, and to support everyone in having fun and building connections that’ll last well beyond the Block Party day!
Now, let’s get started!
Step 1: Pick a Date & Time
We recommend chatting with at least one or two neighbours who you think might help out at the party, to find a date and time that works for everyone.
- If you plan to request closing the road, make sure your date is 3–4 weeks away, giving you 1 week to complete the application and 2 weeks for processing.
- If you’d like to make sure our supplies will be available for your use on the day you’re considering, send us an email at blockparty@caswellhill.ca anytime to confirm.
Step 2: Confirm Your Location
If you plan to close your block, follow the steps below. If you plan to use another public location, like a park space, review the City’s rules here.
- The City has an application for closing the street on your block. Their guide here outlines the process for getting consent from your neighbours for the closure.
- We recommend doing double-duty while you’re knocking on doors on your block:
- Ask about consent to close the road, as required for the closure.
- Also ask about interest in helping with the party, and how you can reach people to confirm volunteer tasks. Here’s a sheet for that!
- Please email us if you’d like us to bring you copies of all of these sheets!
Step 3: Email Us!
If you haven’t emailed us yet at this stage, now is the time!
- We’ll confirm the availability of our supplies for your use on the day you’ve chosen.
- We’ll bring by some materials to help with the planning.
